Can You Be a Mindful Asshole?

MAY 17TH, 2023

EPISODE 2: Can You Be a Mindful Asshole? with Dr. Sará King

“Ah, meditation and yoga, what a beautiful place to hide.”

—Scott’s ex-therapist

While there’s no denying that mindfulness can be a powerful tool, is it the answer to all of our problems, or is it really just a game of playing hide-and-seek from ourselves?  In this episode Dr. Scott and Dr. Sará King hilariously break down the complexity of mindfulness- differentiating toxic positivity and splashy bypassing from a path of profound connection to oneself and the full spectrum of human experiences.

Dr. Scott and Dr. Sará lead by example, demonstrating how play can help you break free from the bondage of trauma as they approach this episode and life with full-on childhood curiosity and a willingness to let life unfold, providing you with the magic sauce of empowerment and deep healing.

If you’re looking for the kind of mindfulness that cultivates the resilience needed to be in the dance of life and feel a deep sense of belonging to the world while at the same time making you laugh so hard you pee (and question whether mindfulness and bladder control are related)  - this episode of The Gently Used Human is for you.

Topics we break down:

  • Trauma bonding.

  • The importance of play.

  • Healing intergenerational trauma.

  • Interdependence.

  • Harmful narratives of the wellness industry.

  • The shadow side of mindfulness.

Show Notes

  • Dr. Scott Lyons was discovered at the age of five breastfeeding on a drunken wildebeest that he had captured with his bare hands while prowling the red light district of Switzerland. He was immediately recognized for his raw, unbridled talent for giving dry, foreskin-chaffing hand jobs with his armpits, playing a Mongolian kazoo, and narrating the vagina monologues without moving his lips with the skill of an 80-year-old ventriloquist- all at the same time!!! - which led him to be selected for the CIA’s finest training program for doctors without ragged buttholes, I mean, borders. He spends his days listlessly rubbing his 99-cent store nipple clamps, pontificating the meaning of hardcore elephant-on-giraffe porn, and taking baths in what some have rumored to be the used remnants of Theodore Roosevelt's toenail clippings, Bad Bunny’s childhood tears, and Justin Timberlake’s artisanal dick cheese. When he grows up one day, he would love to be a trilingual, cleft-toed, hardened war criminal with hoes in at least 30 different area codes and plans to change his name to “Dr. Chauncey McDiddleFingers”

    ————————

The con artist formerly known as Dr. Scott Lyons is here with us today while currently on the run from the same swat team that apprehended Jeffrey Epstein and his cronies. He attended medical school at Stormy Daniels boot camp for Satan-worshipping home wreckers and graduated at the top of his class. He managed to fully fund his education as a milker of gorilla balls for the San Diego Zoo with the nickname “Ms. Piggy”, all while graciously donating his spare time to the elderly at nursing homes nationwide, forcing them, I mean treating them to daily showings of his play “The Golden Girls Slay Amsterdam with their Rabid Pussies” 3 times a day. He is internationally known for his role in instigating 7 government coups using clowns adorned in nothing but spandex assless chaps, turd hats and ball clamps, and is celebrated…as well as feared…on at least 4 continents for his incessant obsession with riding 3 lovers bareback style on the top of local McDonalds while pantomiming what he thinks Dolly Pardon might look like if she were giving birth to a rhinoceros.

  • Congresswoman King, is the embodiment of reinvention after being not so discretely fired from the San Diego aquarium for an incident that involved heavy petting of a starfish. She found herself asking, “What if god was one of us, just the same as one of us?” As unlikely as lightning striking thrice, a producer walked by at that very moment, and immediately signed her to his Korean karaoke drag queen restaurant. And she was a sensation! The small crowds loved her, and more importantly, she began to love herself. After two years of signing mostly Janis Joplin, Alanis Morissette, and some Salt-N-Pepa to spice it up, she realized she wanted something more. So she got a dog, and realized that wasn't it. So she got a husband and filmed some Only Fans content, and realized that wasn’t it. So then she ran for office in the great state of Delaware and won by a unanimous landslide. No, there was actually a landslide that affected voter turnout. Needless to say, she won and realized “Yes, this is it. Politics is where I feel at home.”

Dr Sara King has perfected the art of labial nostril breathing, in through her who who dilly, and out through her chamber of secrets. Through this technique, she has truly revolutionized mindfulness, thus gracing the cover of Mindful Magazine twice. She has taught over 68 people the art of purifying negative energy into quantum crooked smiles. Let us go back in the history of time to when Dr. Sara King discovered said technique through her previous carrier as a gymnast where she often would often swing her legs above and behind her head and would notice a wispy air coming out in the sound of a soft squealy toot, not dissimilar to the low crying tones of a baby seal being clubbed into a winter coat. How curious she thought, why does the air go out but never in, at least not consciously in? So she declared right there that she would become a breathwork teacher. And that she has. Dr. King also serves on several international boards including Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Shell, and China Coal.

Bea Rue

Freelance Web & Graphic Designer

Recently I began taking inventory of my life, recognizing the shifts I could make to lessen my personal consumption and impact. Since we spend a quarter of our lives working, that was certainly an area demanding attention. So I left retail and begin my career freelancing for small businesses whose higher purpose transcends profit.

I believe in employing my skills and energy to empower others working to create positive change in our world. I support too-swamped entrepreneurs by breathing life into their brands and websites, allowing them to focus on the important work at hand. At the same time, I get to nurture my own entrepreneurial spirit while being creative and building truly meaningful relationships throughout my community.

I strive to inform, delight and inspire by balancing content with design. I consider the details without losing sight of the big picture. I aim to see around corners while staying focused on the moment. I'm self directed but have over a decade of experience successfully working with teams. And while I've surely got bills to pay, I know it's my social responsibility to be selective about where I put my energy.
